Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Multiply Technologies LLC DBA ThingSong ("ThingSong", "we", "us") collects when you use the ThingSong mobile app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email hello@thingsong.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: the email address or cell phone number you sign in with, the stage name you choose, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Contest entries: the videos you record or upload, the song title, and whether the song is original, in the public domain, or a cover.
- Entry agreements: when you enter a contest, we record your email address, which version of the entry terms you accepted, when you accepted them, and the IP address and device type used. We keep this as proof of the license you grant us for your performance.
- Activity: your audience votes, and any reports you file or users you block. If you are a judge, the scores and notes you give.
- Prize details: if you win, the full name, phone number and email you confirm for pickup, and the pickup time you choose. If a prize requires a tax form, we send you a secure form by email through a separate service. ThingSong does not ask for or store Social Security or taxpayer identification numbers in the app.
- Contest follows: the contests you ask us to notify you about.
- Text messages: if you sign in with a cell number, we text you one-time sign-in codes. If you also turn on the separate, optional box on the sign-in screen, we text you about your entries and giveaways, such as when your entry goes live, when voting opens, results, and pickup times and reminders, and we keep a record of when you turned it on. If you join the waitlist with one, we may text you when you're invited. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts. We use your number only to sign you in and to reach you about ThingSong, never for marketing texts. We do not share your mobile number or your consent to receive texts with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.
- Waitlist and invitations: while ThingSong is invite-only, the email address or cell number of anyone who joins the waitlist, tries to sign in without an invitation, or is invited, and when. We use it only to send invitations, by email or, for a cell number that joined the waitlist, by text.
- Messages: anything you send us by email.
Information collected automatically
- Technical information: IP address, device and app details, and request logs that our hosting provider records to operate and secure the service.
- Sign-in sessions: a session token stored securely on your device so you stay signed in.
- Notification tokens: if you turn on notifications, a push token that lets Apple or Google deliver notifications to your device. It doesn't include your contacts, location or other apps' data.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
- To create your account and sign you in with one-time codes sent to your email.
- To run contests: accept entries, show performances, count votes, collect judges' scores, and pick and contact winners.
- To publish approved performances in the app and on the ThingSong YouTube channel, as described in the entry terms you accept.
- To keep ThingSong safe and fair: review entries before they are published, act on reports, enforce one vote per person, and prevent abuse.
- To screen every entry video and every contest you post (its photos, video and public text) with automated tools, including AI, for content that breaks our rules. Our team makes the final decision on what is published.
- To send the notifications you turn on (your entry is live, voting has opened, your entry got new votes (at most once a day), and results are in) and keep a copy of each in your in-app Inbox. You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
- To respond to you, and to comply with legal obligations, including tax reporting for prizes where required.
What other people can see
When your entry is approved, your stage name, performance video, song title and, after a contest closes, your placement and score are visible to other ThingSong users and, for videos posted to YouTube, to the public. Your email address is never shown to other users. Votes are not shown individually.
Each approved performance also has a public share link (thingsong.com/e/…). Anyone with the link can see the stage name, song title and performance video on our website, without an account. The link stops working if the entry is removed or the account is deleted.
Service providers
We share information only with providers that help us run ThingSong, and only as needed:
- Cloudflare hosts our servers and database and stores and streams contest videos.
- Resend sends our sign-in and account emails.
- Twilio sends our texts: sign-in codes, invitations, and the texts about your entries and giveaways if you turned them on. It receives your cell number.
- Expo (650 Industries) passes our push notifications to Apple and Google, which deliver them to your device. They receive your device's push token and the notification's text.
- Google / YouTube hosts performances we publish on the ThingSong YouTube channel.
- Google (the Gemini API) screens entry videos and contest posts for us. It receives the video, still images from it, contest photos and text, and details such as the song title. Google doesn't use this to train its models, and keeps it for up to 55 days to detect abuse of its service.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, or in connection with a merger or sale of ThingSong, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
YouTube API Services
ThingSong uses YouTube API Services to upload approved contest performances to the ThingSong YouTube channel and to remove them when an entry is withdrawn or taken down. ThingSong does not ask you to connect your own YouTube or Google account and does not access your YouTube account data.
Videos published on YouTube are subject to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. ThingSong's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How long we keep information
We keep your account information and entries while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account → Delete my account). When you do:
- We delete your email address, cell number and stage name from your account, your sign-in sessions, the users you blocked, your notification tokens, Inbox and contest follows, the contact details on any prize claim, and the performance videos ThingSong stores.
- We keep anonymous placeholders for your entries, votes, judge scores and reports, with no name or email attached, so contest counts and past results stay accurate. Your entries are withdrawn from any contest still in progress.
- We keep records of accepted entry terms, including the email address used, because they document the license for performances that were published.
- Performances already published on YouTube stay published under the irrevocable license you granted when you entered. We may remove them at our discretion, for example for safety or legal reasons. Contact hello@thingsong.com if you have a concern about a specific video.
Waitlist and invitation emails and numbers stay until you ask us to remove them at hello@thingsong.com.
We may also keep information where the law requires it, for example prize and tax records.
Your choices and rights
- Change your stage name or delete your account in the app.
- Turn notifications on or off in your device settings. Signing out also stops notifications to that device.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it by emailing hello@thingsong.com, subject to the records described above.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We will honor them and will not treat you differently for using them.
Age requirement
ThingSong is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect information with encryption in transit, hashed sign-in codes and session tokens, and access controls. No service is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away if you notice a problem.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date above and let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
